Earth Day 2014

Picture taken from my phone at school.

Rarely do I ever get the time to sit and just think… Today, as a class, we took a “nature walk” through school and it opened up my eyes to many things. It was quite fitting as today is Earth Day! (even though many failed to realize it was Earth Day) Talking was not allowed which helped each individual take in the experience of the beauty of nature. Somehow, from the same parts of the school I pass by everyday, on this field trip, I noticed things I’ve never seen before. For example, there is a beautifully grown sycamore tree right by one of the entrances and secret doors on the walls! With AP week approaching soon, the silence and the admiration of the beauty of nature has released a lot of stress for me. I was able to clear my mind and focus on something not school-related for once…

Another thing this nature walk has gotten me to realize all the little things people have done for me. And it’s crazy how they’ve just become secondary to me. Walking me to class, holding the door for me as I struggle with my endless amount of textbooks. Sometimes, I take these people for granted. “Learn to appreciate what you have before time makes you appreciate what you had.” Three things you can’t recover in life are: the moments after it’s missed, the word after it’s said, and the time after it’s wasted. Someone else is probably more happy with less than what you have, so be grateful! So take time today to appreciate who does something you take for granted!
